Es ist fast zehn Jahre her, dass sich die Vorzeige-Shoegazer Slowdive wieder zusammenfanden, nachdem sich die britische Band 1995 erst einmal aufgelöst hatte, um sich eine Schaffenspause zu verordnen und andere musikalische Projekte zu verfolgen. Nun melden sich Rachel, Neil, Nick, Simon und Christian mit ihrem mittlerweile fünften Album zurück. Dabei steht der Albumtitel „Everything Is Alive“ in Opposition zu den privaten Umständen, mit denen sich zwei Bandmitglieder konfrontiert sehen mussten. So verloren Rachel und Simon jeweils einen Elternteil, fanden aber im Entstehungsprozess des neuen Albums, das Slowdive den beiden Verstorbenen gewidmet hat, Trost. So klingt „Everything Is Alive“ zwar insgesamt sehr introvertiert und melancholisch, aber keinesfalls schwermütig. Fängt das Album mit „Shanty‘ noch ein wenig schleppend an, ist „Alife“ von Zuversicht geprägt und dementsprechend heiterer arrangiert. Dieses Gefühl von süßer Melancholie steigert sich in „Kisses“, in dem sich die Stimmen von Rachel und Neil perfekt vereinen. Ebenso hervorzuheben ist der finale Track „The Slab“, in dem Slowdive das Tempo anziehen und damit eine weitere Facette ihresmusikalischen Schaffens preisgeben.Wer Slowdive will, der möchte Shoegaze, der möchte introvertierte Songs, und der möchte verträumte Soundlandschaften. Alles Dinge, die „Everything Is Alive“ zu bieten hat.

ENGLISH: It’s been almost ten years since flagship shoegazers Slowdive reunited after the British band broke up in 1995 to take a creative hiatus to pursue other musical projects. Now Rachel, Neil, Nick, Simon and Christian are back with their fifth album. The album title „Everything Is Alive“ stands in opposition to the private circumstances that two band members had to face. Rachel and Simon each lost a parent, but found solace in the process of creating the new album that Slowdive dedicated to the two deceased. So “Everything Is Alive” sounds very introverted and melancholic overall, but by no means melancholy. While the album starts off a little sluggishly with “Shanty”, “Alife” is characterized by confidence and is correspondingly more cheerfully arranged. That feeling of sweet melancholy is heightened on „Kisses,“ where the voices of Rachel and Neil combine perfectly. The final track “The Slab”, in which Slowdive pick up the pace and thus reveal another facet of their musical work, deserves a special mention. If you want Slowdive, you want shoegaze, you want introverted songs, and you want dreamy soundscapes. All things that „Everything Is Alive“ has to offer.
